The DARE TO CARE
FOOD BANK exists to provide an efficient, low cost way of
obtaining food for social service agencies in the community
that operate feeding programs.
The Food Bank is operated
as a cooperative effort between DARE TO CARE FOOD BANK and
more than 356 not-for-profits in
a 13 county area in Kentucky and southern Indiana.
Food is donated to the DARE TO CARE
FOOD BANK program through both local sources, and through the
national America's
Second Harvest network. Donors
and food bank agencies are guaranteed detailed product tracking,
brand name integrity, superior food handling and storage, and
timely distribution of donations.
The DARE TO CARE FOOD BANK is subject
to inspections by state and local health departments, food
industry representatives, and by Second Harvest.
All donated food is offered to non-profit
501(c)3 agencies that operate feeding programs for the needy,
ill, infants, children, and seniors.
These organizations serve the community
through a variety of programs, including:
- Food pantries
- Missions
- Community kitchens
- Shelters
- Child care centers
- Residential facilities
DARE TO CARE FOOD BANK pays for the
cost of operating the warehouse for the Food Bank Program from
its operating budget. This includes;
- Shipping charges that DARE TO CARE
pays for delivery of donated goods to our warehouse.
- Transportation costs for local
collection and delivery.
- Utilities associated with refrigerated
and frozen storage.
